I'm of English/Irish heritage with parents who loved Japanese art, architecture and design. I grew up in a house in Saanich they designed and built in a mid-century modern/Japanese style, complete with shoji doors, pebble gardens, decks, lanterns, bonsai trees, Japanese pines, maples and bamboo. 

I appreciate the Japanese design aesthetic and love to paint a Japanese garden. This scene is an imaginary one, including a teahouse, footbridge, water feature and shrubbery. Trees break up the light into fascinating shapes.
